The AI industry is experiencing an unprecedented boom, as reflected in Forbes’s 2026 World’s Billionaires list. There are now at least 86 AI billionaires, collectively worth $2.9 trillion. Remarkably, 45 of these individuals have become billionaires within just the past year, highlighting the rapid growth and investment in the sector. This surge suggests that if there is an AI market bubble, it is still expanding rather than bursting.
The richest new AI billionaire is Edwin Chen, founder of Serge AI, with an estimated net worth of $18 billion. Serge AI specializes in data labeling, and while its valuation is not dramatically higher than its competitors, Chen’s decision to avoid traditional venture capital allowed him to retain over 75% ownership of the company. This significant stake is the primary reason for his extraordinary wealth.
Lu Dang, the second wealthiest newcomer, is the co-founder and chairman of Chinese AI firm Z.AI. His estimated net worth is $9.1 billion. Z.AI is known for developing open-source AI models that rival those of OpenAI and other major players. Lu Dang’s fortune soared following Z.AI’s explosive initial public offering in Hong Kong in January, which significantly increased the company’s valuation.
Another notable new billionaire is Daniel Nadler, CEO and co-founder of Open Evidence. Nadler’s company focuses on AI-powered search tools for doctors, aiming to revolutionize medical information retrieval. With Open Evidence raising funds at a $12 billion valuation in January, Nadler’s personal net worth has reached $7.6 billion, making him the third richest AI newcomer on the list.
Rounding out the group are Brett Taylor and Clay Pavore, co-founders of Sierra, a company valued at $10 billion that provides AI customer service solutions for businesses. Both Taylor and Pavore have an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion each. These new entrants join a growing cohort of tech billionaires benefiting from the AI boom, with the total wealth of the 468 tech billionaires on Forbes’s list reaching a record $4.8 trillion—an increase of $1.1 trillion from the previous year.
